Update Container

Write

Merges new settings onto an existing Elementor container element.

Requires the The Plus Addons for Elementor plugin (which registers under the 'tpae' ability category) on WordPress 6.9+, with Elementor active. Every ability requires the current user to have the 'edit_posts' capability (and 'edit_post' for the specific post being modified); abilities that create or edit content also verify Elementor and, where relevant, the target The Plus widget are available. A subset of abilities (theme templates, template conditions, dynamic tags, popups, and some custom-code abilities) only register when Elementor Pro is active, and many widget abilities load only in the free plugin when the Pro add-on is inactive.

What it does

This ability updates an existing Elementor container specifically — it loads the target post's element tree, locates the element by element_id, and explicitly verifies the found element's elType is 'container' before touching anything, rejecting the call with a WP_Error if the element is some other type such as a widget. Once verified, it merges the supplied settings object (e.g. content_width, flex_direction, align_items, justify_content, gap, padding, background_color) into the container's existing settings and saves the updated page data back. It's the type-safe choice when you specifically want to guard against accidentally reconfiguring a non-container element; use update-element instead when the element's type is unknown or could be a widget. It returns a WP_Error if post_id, element_id, or settings are missing, if the element cannot be found, or if the found element isn't a container, and requires the 'edit_posts' capability plus 'edit_post' on the specific post_id.
